What you will do:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Mechanical Maintenance in the Facilities Design Management (Mechanical Services) division your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Perform predictive, preventative and reactive maintenance and repair on all building systems and mechanical operating equipment, including but not limited to: heating ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC), associated water treatment systems, air handling and exhaust systems, make-up air equipment , steam and hot water boilers and related equipment, suspended unit heaters, circulation pumps, electronic and humidification systems, and associated hot water recovery systems, chillers and cooling tower systems (refrigeration plants), heat pumps
Perform work in adherence to all mechanical, building, fuel and all other relevant codes as well as local by-laws, as applicable
Troubleshoot problems with mechanical equipment and related systems to identify causes of failure and implement effective repair solutions in a timely and efficient manner
Work with a variety of City staff and external community partners to ensure safe and comfortable environments for staff and patrons in accordance with: corporate health and safety policies and procedures, corporate energy targets and industry best practices.
Maintain log on all preventative and reactive maintenance for all corporate assets
Work with supervisor to procure parts or service in accordance to corporate purchasing by-laws
Participate in the evaluation of products, equipment, and methods used in safe facility maintenance and operation by working in conjunction with the supervisor
Participate in the implementation of energy management programs
Recommend energy efficiencies (e.g., operating strategy alternatives, product improvements, scheduling improvements)
Participate in an apprenticeship program as a mentor, as applicable
Participate in the Corporate after-hours on-call program (mandatory)

What you will bring:

Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent
Experience related to the duties listed above, normally acquired through 5-7 years industrial/ commercial experience with commercial mechanical equipment and systems
Must hold a Ministry of Labour, Training, and Skills Development Certificate of Qualification as a 313A HVAC/R Mechanic
Must hold, at minimum, TSSA Gas Technician 2 (a “G.2 certificate”) - Gas Technician 1 is preferred. Candidates with a TSSA Gas Technician 2 certification who are willing and eligible to obtain their Gas Technician 1 certification within two (2) years may be considered.*
Certificate of Authorization in Ozone Depletion Protection (ODP) preferred. Candidates who are eligible to obtain this certificate within six (6) months of being posted in the position may be considered.
Must be able to demonstrate a high level knowledge of: refrigeration equipment, pumps, motors, HVAC equipment, , a variety of electrical components related safety regulations
Must have strong mathematical skills and basic understanding of thermodynamic and electrical laws
Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and experience with MMS computer system (Maximo) would be an asset
Valid MTO ‘G’ class driver’s licence in good standing with driver’s abstract acceptable to the City (maximum of 3 demerit points; maximum of 2 convictions within the previous 36 months; no driving related criminal code convictions within the previous 36 months; and no ignition interlock restrictions) is required to perform the job.

What we will require:

A Police Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check satisfactory to the City
Proof of your current and valid certificate(s), licenses and/or educational qualification, if applicable
Supplementary training related to the Business Unit after hire

*Wage Information:

HVAC/R 313A & Gas Technician 1: $45.18 per hour ($39.18 per hour + $6.00 G.1. Certificate Premium)

HVAC/R 313A & Gas Technician 2: $43.18 per hour ($39.18 per hour + $4.00 G.2. Certificate Premium)

In accordance with Appendix ‘A’ Wage Schedule, a rate of 5% less than the corresponding full-time rate will apply for any incumbent while serving a probationary period.

Shift Information:

Hours of work will generally be scheduled between Monday and Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00p.m. with some flexibility and overtime required. The City reserves the right to implement shift work, as operationally required, in accordance with the applicable Collective Agreement. Participation in the Division’s After-hours Standby System is Mandatory - compensation consistent with the current Collective Agreement
