Desjardins Group is seeking a talented Government Relations Advisor to contribute to our public policy development and advocacy efforts outside of Québec. You will be involved in advancing Desjardins Group’s priorities across our various lines of business, with a primary focus on Property & Casualty insurance. More specifically, you will be required to::

Build and maintain strong relationships with provincial governments in Ontario, Alberta and the Atlantic provinces, as well as with Desjardins’ institutional partners.
Conduct research and collaborate with internal subject matter experts to help develop influential public policy positions that are in the best interests of Desjardins members/clients and our communities and communicate them to the appropriate stakeholder in a variety of formats (e.g., submissions, letters, briefing notes).
Review government legislation and regulations that apply to our industries and clearly and simply explain how they present risks or opportunities to our business practices.
Engage in issue identification with other Desjardins government relations and institutional affairs colleagues located in Ottawa, Ontario and in Montréal and Lévis, Quebec.
Contribute to the development of advocacy strategies.
Plan meetings and organize appearances and conduct internal reporting and tracking of these engagements and other submissions.
Register in federal, provincial, and municipal lobbyist registries, when appropriate.
Provide insight into the political and public administration process to Desjardins employees and agents and encourage their civic engagement.

What you bring to the table

Bachelor's degree in public administration, political science, public relations, communications, law or in a related field
A minimum of three years of relevant experience
Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
Advanced proficiency of English due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with English-speaking partners, members and/or clients
Knowledge of government structure and parliamentary mechanics
Knowledge of the Property & Casualty insurance and/or financial services industry
Knowledge of Desjardins Group
