ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) is a not-for-profit organization whose main focus is the exploration and development of opportunities to promote and celebrate Canadian artists and music. CARAS serves as an umbrella organization to the JUNO Awards – Canada’s Music Awards, the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and MusiCounts – Canada’s music education charity associated with CARAS. The JUNO Awards is Canada’s premier music award show that recognizes and celebrates excellence of achievement in recorded music.

OVERALL POSITION

The Intern, Academy Operations will play a key role in assisting the Academy Operations team with executing the Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class in September. ASJMC is Canada’s premier artist development program which is specifically designed to provide the country’s most promising emerging artists with the tools to take their career to the next level and become JUNO ready. They will also be heavily involved in assisting with all administrative aspects of the Nominating & Voting cycle, which includes verifying JUNOS submissions, assisting with communications and scheduling meetings with Music Advisory Committees, and assisting with the first round of JUNO Award voting in early December to determine the JUNO nominees. This position will be heavily focused on providing superior customer service to the Canadian music industry, both through JUNOS submissions support and voting support to CARAS Academy Delegates. individual who has a desire to learn and a keen interest in the Canadian music industry.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class (10%):
● Collaborate with internal and external teams on the planning of Mentorship Week (Sep 15-20, 2024)
● Day-to-day support for Artist Mentorship Week, including managing transportation and catering
● Provide onsite support for ASJMC Artist Showcase

Submission Verification (40%):
● Review artist’s JUNO submissions to ensure eligibility
● Understand all eligibility requirements as it relates to JUNOS submissions and apply those criteria during the verification process
● Provide customer support over the phone and via email to artists submitting themselves and labels/manager submitting on behalf of artists for JUNO consideration

Music Advisory Committee Relations (15%):
● Manage scheduling of Music Advisory Committee screening meetings and communicating with committees regarding the screening process
● Assist with administrative work such as creating and managing documentation to track committee recommendations
● Assist with creating consumption reports to aid committees during the screening process
● Provide support during committee meetings and take notes

Round 1 Voting Support (30%):
● Assist with judge selection and application process, including outreach to judges encouraging them to apply
● Assist with testing the voting site prior to voting opening
● Assist with creating and managing document updates and communications that will go out to CARAS Academy Delegates & Judges
● Provide customer service over the phone and via email to all CARAS Academy Delegates and Judges who are taking part in the voting process
● Update voting reports on a daily basis throughout the voting period and complete a final report on all voting statistics once voting has closed

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

● Prior experience in an operations, customer support, and/or project management role is an asset
● Prior experience in the music industry, either on a professional or volunteer basis, is an asset
● Strong written communication skills and excellent phone etiquette
● Prior experience with G-Suite & Zoom
● Ability to practice professionalism and sound judgment
● Ability to practice discretion in managing confidential information
● Ability to self-start and think critically about how to solve problems
● Detail-oriented and able to produce high quality work on a regular basis
● Growth-oriented mindset with a desire to seek feedback and learn continuously
● Ability to practice time management under strict deadlines

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

● Operational hours are Monday to Friday 9 AM – 5 PM ET
● This position pays $17.20/hour
● Overtime may be required (advance notice of overtime will be given)
● This is a hybrid position which requires the candidate to be in office two days per week
