The Constituency Assistant serves constituency residents by ensuring their needs and interests are met. The person in this role is responsible for outreach and events activities for the Member of Parliament, including creating and executing an outreach strategy, planning events, and managing the Member’s agenda.

This role is based in a Greater Toronto Area Constituency Office and reports to the Chief of Staff.

Job Description

Outreach Strategy: Develops and executes outreach for the local Member of Parliament (MP). Stays informed of all local events and activities, relaying them to the Chief of Staff and MP.
Executive Assistance: Oversees the scheduling of meetings and events, and ensures the Member has all materials and information needed for each scheduled event and activity.
Event Planning: Lead the planning and execution of events such as MP events, town halls, roundtables, and other community activities.
Volunteer Management: Manage a roster of volunteers and oversee the organization of working groups, including setting meeting schedules and facilitating discussions.
Government Updates: Stays informed about federal government funding and support for individuals, organizations, and businesses, and provide updates via email and telephone.
Additional Responsibilities: Assist with other team projects and as assigned by the Chief of Staff and Member.

Qualifications

Education

Post-secondary education from a recognized institution OR a combination of education, training, and relevant experience.

Experience

Excellent customer and client service skills;
Experience providing administrative support in an office setting;
Past leadership or volunteer experience in a political setting.

Qualifications

Organizational and planning skills to ensure events and activities are executed efficiently;
Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills, including the ability to work with a diverse team and constituency population;
Advanced ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing);
Adept at demonstrating good judgment and diplomacy when interacting with the public and stakeholders;
Adaptable and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment with changing demands;
Foundational understanding of the Canadian parliamentary system and federal political issues;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Information

Employment Type: Full-time. Some evening and weekend work is required.

Location: Greater Toronto Area.

Salary: Salary will be commensurate to the level of experience.
