POSITION SUMMARY:
Canada’s largest and most comprehensive museum, ROM is home to a world-class collection of artworks, cultural objects and natural history specimens, featured in 40 gallery and exhibition spaces. As the country’s preeminent field research institute and an international leader in new discoveries, ROM plays a vital role in advancing our understanding of the artistic, cultural and natural world. ROM is seeking a leader and strong communicator to oversee a team who cares for the art and cultural objects in ROM’s collection.
The Senior Registrar is crucial in overseeing and directing all aspects of ROM’s registration activities and staff. This position is instrumental in managing various facets of museum operations, including acquisitions, Cultural Property applications, accessions, deaccessions, and loan management. The Senior Manager/Registrar fosters a positive workplace through mentorship and direction and establishes collaborative relationships across the organization to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the registration department.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee and direct all aspects of ROM’s registration activities and staff.
- Manage a team responsible for acquisitions, Cultural Property applications, appraisals accessions, deaccessions, loans, registration aspects of travelling exhibitions, condition reporting, collections travel, copyright, collections insurance, and intellectual property.
- Collaborate closely with the Chief of Collections Care, Senior Manager of Conservation, Manager of Exhibit Preparation and Maintenance, Exhibitions staff, and the Co-Chief Curators of Art & Culture and Natural History.
- Guide and coach the team for equitable and judicious work allocation, aligning the department with institution-level goals and strategies.
- Create, communicate, and implement policies and procedures within the department.
- Create, communicate, and implement workflows, especially as they related to digital documentation.
- Support professional development and growth within the registration department.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and laws, participate in insurance claims and renewals, and collaborate on contracts for traveling exhibitions.
- Manage sensitive donor relationships.
- Serve as a skilled communicator, adept at building strong partnerships at all levels within an active and dynamic workplace.
- Assess risks and develop strategies and opportunities in line with industry standards and best practices.
- Understand and adapt to the rapidly changing role of museums in contemporary society, especially in relation to colonialism and Indigenous culture.
SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

EMPLOYEE GROUP: Non-union
SALARY: $100,000.00 – 120,000.00
SCHEDULE: 35 hours weekly
PROBATIONARY PERIOD: six (6) months
