The Senior Communications Advisor, External Communications (18-month contract) will join the dynamic Communications & Public Affairs (CPA) team at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). The Senior Communications Advisor will contribute to a range of exciting communications initiatives, with a focus on social media, to promote clinical and research activities and offer behind-the-scenes peeks across SickKids.
Reporting to the Manager, External Communications, this contract position will help elevate SickKids' high-profile social media presence through planning and development of engaging multimedia content, community management and staying on top of the latest social media trends. The successful candidate will also support communications for Boomerang Health, powered by SickKids.
Here's What You'll Get To Do:
- Responsible for developing and maintaining high-impact content, including videos, photos, graphics, for all of SickKids corporate social media accounts (X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube);
- Perform ongoing monitoring and community management, including escalating issues to the broader team and other SickKids departments, and responding to direct messages;
- Play a leading role in the development of social media strategies, exploring new trends and channels, as well as seeking new opportunities to expand and engage with SickKids' audiences
- Attend events and activities across the SickKids campus to capture photos/videos for timely and dynamic social media coverage;
- Lead intake of requests and onboarding for SickKids-affiliated social media accounts;
- Work with staff from various clinical divisions and research programs, as well as other partners, to support their communications goals/objectives and develop, edit and post social media content;
- Interview and work with SickKids patients and families to create original content for SickKids channels and engage with user-generated content as appropriate;
- Track and report social media analytics proactively and upon request;
- In addition to social media content, assist with writing and editing other communications materials, such as newsletters, employee intranet posts, web stories and more;
- Participate in on-call rotation for Communications & Public Affairs;
- Lead social media efforts for Boomerang Health, in collaboration with the Executive Director, by monitoring, posting and generating timely content for social media accounts (X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn);
- Support other communications activities for Boomerang Health on an as-needed basis, such as developing awareness campaigns, events, web stories, escalating issues, media relations and working with partner organizations.
Here's What You'll Need:
- Degree/diploma in social or digital media, marketing, communications, public relations, or journalism;
- 5+ years of corporate social media and/or communications experience with an interest in a health-care, research or not-for-profit setting;
- On the pulse of a large variety of social media channels including strong understanding of X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok;
- Sound judgment, solid strategic thinking and troubleshooting skills, as well as the ability to carefully manage sensitive and confidential information;
- A natural and creative storyteller with excellent writing skills and an eye for visuals;
- Ability to balance competing deadlines with strong organizational and project management skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with a variety of internal and external partners;
- Team player who excels at collaborating with others to achieve common goals;
