As an integral member of the Laboratory management team, the Supervisor, Routine Chemistry, POCT and Immunology is primarily responsible for maintaining the daily operation of the laboratory, including planning and organization of departmental initiatives; technical, operational and project supervision; human resources supervision; quality management, and teaching.
The Department of Paediatric Laboratory Medicine (DPLM) at SickKids is a leading, world-class facility working towards reducing the impact of childhood illness by providing diagnostic information that allows for early selection of best treatment options. DPLM is a valuable and integral part of the SickKids team, generating original research and providing timely, specialized diagnostic services for health care providers in Canada and around the world. The department comprises of five divisions: Clinical Biochemistry, Genome Diagnostics, Haematopathology, Microbiology, and Pathology. All DPLM laboratories are accredited by Accreditation Canada Diagnostics.
Here's What You'll Get To Do
- Directly supervise assigned laboratory personnel.
- Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures of the Clinical Laboratory.
- Ensure adherence to Hospital policies and procedures within the laboratory.
- Maintain responsibility for laboratory equipment and products.
- Coordinate and participate in the identification, development and delivery of professional development programs.
- Facilitate access to educational programs by assigned personnel, maintaining professional development of self.
- Ensure staff compliance with quality assurance requirements and standards.
- Participating in the preparation and monitoring of the operational budgets.
- Prepare and review monthly LMIS model with financial, manpower and test volume data.
- Assist with the preparation of capital budgets.
- Adhere to Hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Adhere to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality.
Here's What You'll Need
- Graduate of a General Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) program.
- Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLSC) or equivalent preferred.
- Advanced Registered Technologist (ART) designation in area of responsibility preferred.
- Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) as required by assigned area. Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) must be maintained each year and the senior manager must be provided with a copy of the registration by the date provided by Hospital policy.
- Seven years technical laboratory experience.
- Previous supervisory experience an asset.
- Excellent problem recognition and problem solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective time management and organizational skills; ability to organize work and set priorities for self and others.
- Computer literacy.
- Basic training in project management preferred.
- Basic training in hospital departmental financial management preferred.
- Basic skills with MS Word, Excel and PPT.
