We are currently searching for a Watch List Loan Specialist to join our team in our Head Office location.
This position requires an onsite presence.
The Watch List Loan Specialist is responsible for monitoring and oversight of problem/watch-list loans at a national level to mitigate, remediate and undertake action plans to protect and improve the Bank’s position within the broader Credit Risk Framework. Develops and manages tailored solutions for large, complex distressed loans including negotiating satisfactory conditions, obtaining additional collateral, and restructuring facilities as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities:
Portfolio Monitoring & Problem Loan Monitoring
o In accordance with KHBC’s guidelines, prepare a CARM (Commercial Account Review & Monitoring) & Renewal report(s) upon expiry date for review.
o Conduct ongoing monitoring of covenants and escalation of covenant breach for problem loans in timely manner. Monitor loan repayment schedule, covenant status and breaches, escalating where necessary to remediate the situation or determine appropriate next steps.
o Review legal file and any other associated documents to ensure and verify the status of the collateral.
o Enter Credit Risk Ratings into Bank system in order to improve data integrity once loans are reviewed.
o Communicate directly with the customer to assess the existing situation, determine appropriate next steps and initiate a customized action plan aligned with the Bank’s Credit Risk Framework. Work toward normalizing each problem loan and return to corresponding branches once normalized. Upon successful remediation, communicate with the Branch Manager and re-assigns the file to the Branch.
o Work with external counsel and other appropriate parties to recover any losses on behalf of the Bank.
Relationship Management
o Undertake frequent contact with borrowers who hold problem loans, in order to determine the remedial actions and plans for the future. Liaise directly with Vice President to monitor at risk files and identify timing of intervention and remediation.
o Work directly with customer to understand existing circumstances and probability of default or remediation.
o Conduct detailed financial assessment and develop a customized action plan, including negotiating satisfactory conditions, obtaining additional collateral, and restructuring as appropriate.
o Manage and monitor the file, including regular customer communications.
o Provide regular file status updates to Branch Managers in writing and communicate all final decisions in a timely manner.
Reporting
o Prepare National risk reports for review with a high degree of frequency.
o Prepare ad hoc reports for Parent Bank, Board of Directors and OSFI as required.
o Maintain awareness of current developments, economic trends, legislative changes and emerging issues relative to the health of the portfolio.
Skills/Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics or equivalent experience.
- 5-7 years of relevant Banking experience in Commercial Credit (especially Problem/Watch-List Loans), Commercial Real Estate, Portfolio Monitoring and Management, Credit Risk Adjudication.
- 5+ years of experience in credit underwriting.
- Extensive knowledge of Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
- Written and verbal proficiency in both English and Korean.

- Knowledge of OSFI regulations.
- Completion of Credit Management courses or Credit Management Institute of Canada designation an asset.
