We have an exciting new opportunity for that special someone to showcase their creative skills in a unique corporate communications role. The Senior Communications Advisor - Nursing & Interprofessional Practice and Education will focus primarily on developing content showcasing our awesome nurses and unique nursing roles and promoting/supporting interprofessional and nursing education opportunities and events across the organization.
Here's What You'll Get To Do
- Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Communications (with a dotted line to the Associate Chief of Nursing, Practice AND to the Associate Chief of Nursing & Interprofessional Education), responsible for writing engaging stories and producing creative content for both internal and external audiences about the nurses who work at SickKids, the diversity of educational programs available to nursing and interprofessional staff, and why SickKids is 'the place' to be a nurse and health-care professional.
- Develop informative, persuasive targeted content based on interviews with nursing staff/subject matter experts, presentations and desk research, including but not limited to social media posts, internal stories, web stories, video scripts, videos, speaking remarks, correspondence, presentations, recruitment materials, departmental web-page text, brochures, marketing strategies, key messages, staff profiles, Q&As etc.
- Develop communications plans/tactical plans in support of Nursing and Interprofessional Practice and Education initiatives and programs, and implement them, as required.
- Manage and support the internal Nursing and Interprofessional Practice and Education intranet pages and support communications that lead nurses and health-care professionals to the information they need regarding practice and education.
- Provide general communications support for Nursing and education across the hospital.
- Support and collaborate with Communications and Public Affairs (CPA) colleagues as needed, helping to draft stories related to nursing and education.
- Liaise with photographers, videographers, illustrators and other CPA team members to integrate content into various platforms/vehicles.
- Participate in CPA huddles and team meetings and Nursing and Education Strategic committees as required.
- Hybrid environment: work from home and on site with flexibility where needed to participate in hospital-based events and programs.
Here's What You'll Need
- Degree/diploma in journalism, public relations, communications or a related area is required
- Minimum of 2 years writing experience in internal communications, journalism or public relations agency settings
- Ability to write creatively, succinctly and for a variety of specified markets or audiences
- Ability to rapidly write short, engaging content for broad audience
- Excellent editing skills and familiarity with CP Style
- Ability to think conceptually and creatively - create, develop and implement communication plans. If you love storytelling, this role is for you
- Sound judgment, a professional demeanour and strong interpersonal skills to interact successfully with personnel at all levels
- Exceptional attention to detail and deadlines
- Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment and with a variety of professionals, exercising tact and discretion
- Demonstrated skill in prioritizing assignments with competing deadlines and requirements; ability to work under pressure
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Strong work ethic, responsive and highly creative
- Experience with photo editing (Adobe Photoshop) and email newsletter platforms (MailChimp) is an asset
