The Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Get Up and Go Pain (GUaG) Program provides leadership and promotes excellence in family-centered nursing care at Holland Bloorview working in collaboration with the Pain Program at SickKids. The NP practices through the five main role components of expert practice: education, consultation, research and leader/change agent. The GUaG provides interdisciplinary care to youth experiencing chronic pain which impacts their mental health, sleep and appetite and social activities. GUaG is an inpatient and day program that integrates school, recreational, occupational and physio therapies, alongside daily routines such as maintaining a sleep schedule, energy conservation, healthy eating habits and more. With their wide range of expertise, the team can use different strategies to co-create a plan that addresses the client¿s specific needs and goals.
The NP will work collaboratively with the team in the admission and discharge process and day to day management of clients and families. The NP facilitates clinical rounds and team meetings and plays a key role in communicating with referral sources and school partners as needed.
The NP integrates nursing and medical skills and knowledge within a broad scope of advanced nursing practice and assumes a leadership role in influencing clinical nursing practice and the provision of care. The NP integrates research into practice, provides comprehensive health care to specific patient populations, is a member of the health care team, and serves as the contact person for select patient populations.

Here's What You'll Get to Do:
- Integrate nursing and medical skills and knowledge within a broad scope of advanced nursing practice.
- Assume a leadership role in influencing clinical nursing practice and the provision of care.
- Foster partnerships with patients/families and interprofessional teams in the development and coordination of plans of care.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to support the development of nursing and interprofessional colleagues.
- Integrate research into practice.
- Create, utilize and/or disseminate new knowledge.
- Conduct environmental assessments (home, community, school) and help guide child/family through the treatment program.
- Identify and link to services and resources in community.
- Provide assistance with acquiring specialized equipment for children in the program.
Here's What You'll Need:
- Completion of a Nurse Practitioner program (within MN or post-master certificate)
- Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, within the RN (Extended Class)
- 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience in paediatrics.
- Pediatric rehab, complex care, or experience with pain an asset.
- Mental health experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, act as a change agent, and foster teamwork and consensus.
- Demonstrated excellence in innovative critical thinking with excellent communication, public speaking and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of theoretical frameworks and research application.
- A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity & inclusion.
