IGT (Image Guided Therapy) RN
The role of the interventional nurse is dynamic and challenging. IGT nurses carry out their duties in a high paced technological environment, providing care to children experiencing a wide variety of complex health issues. Nursing in IGT requires an advanced skill set and specialized knowledge of pediatric anatomy and physiology with a specific focus on the pediatric airway and respiratory system. The IGT nurse must be able to manage patient care at all levels, from the floor patient to critical care.
Here's What You'll Love
- Interprofessional Collaboration - The IGT nurses work within the multi-disciplinary group of radiologists, technologists, anesthetists and nurses to provide care to patients undergoing interventional procedures.
- Assigned shifts will be Monday-Friday (8 hours).
- On call responsibilities 1 week every 2-3 months. Double time will be paid for any call backs.
- Continued Learning- lifelong learning is encouraged through internal programs as well as through external means like academic and conference support. IGT nurses are required to be PALS certified and will be compensated after successful completion of the course.
- Focused course in Pediatric Procedural Sedation is provided.
- Professional Development- we encourage participation in nursing practice committees, departmental research as well as preceptorship and mentorship programs.
Here's What You'll Get to do
- Develop and implement a nursing plan of care in collaboration with the child/family and interdisciplinary team for the patient receiving nurse sedation and/or general anesthesia.
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments of patients undergoing minimally invasive and diagnostic procedures in the IGT department.
- Provide nurse administered deep sedation using intravenous, oral and inhalation methods.
- Assist anesthesia staff with the induction and airway management of patients having interventional procedures under general anesthesia.
- Assist with interventional procedures in both the circulating and scrub nurse roles.
- Monitor patients while under sedation and general anesthesia.
- Perform intravenous insertions and contrast administration.
- Maintain clinical competence and knowledge base through continued education and life-long learning.
- Utilize evidenced-based practice as a base in the promotion of professional accountability.
Here's What You'll Need
- Graduate of an approved Baccalaureate Nursing Program.
- Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.
- Previous work experience in pediatrics or experience working with children is a strong asset but not mandatory.
- Previous nursing/clinical experience in NICU/PICU and PACU is an asset.
- Certification of Intravenous Initiation is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use your critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork abilities.
