About the Team
This role is part of TikTok's Global Public Policy (GPP) team. The GPP team’s work spans a broad and diverse range of functions and work-streams, including government affairs and government relations; policy, product, and issue area expertise; risk and crisis management and mitigation; outreach, coalitions, and partnerships; and philanthropy. The mission of the Global Public Policy team is to prevent, manage, and mitigate political, legislative, and regulatory threats and to promote a political, legislative, and regulatory environment that supports growth and innovation for our business.
Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain relationships with Canadian policymakers
- Advocate for policy positions that benefit and protect TikTok and its community
- Devise and execute strategies for engaging with policymakers and stakeholders around issues important to TikTok and our community of creators
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders such as Legal, Communications, and the broader GPP team on public policy matters to help guide development of products, services, and policies
- Identify, analyze, and communicate relevant policy trends, legislative and regulatory proposals, and other issues of importance to the company
- Articulate policy positions in briefing notes, public submissions, and internal policy meetings
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Extensive years of work experience in Canadian politics or government relations plus a bachelors degree in a relevant field
- Demonstrated experience and expertise working on Canadian public policy issues related to the internet and relevant regulatory, legal, cultural, and safety issues
- Existing relationships with relevant political, government, civil society, and industry stakeholders
- Experience drafting policy submissions or briefings, speaking publicly, and the ability to distill complex legal and regulatory issues into simple explanations and compelling messages
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- The ability to work independently and through ambiguity, and to self-direct and prioritize projects across multiple files while meeting tight deadlines
- Eligibility to lobby under the Lobbying Act
Preferred Qualifications
- A passion for TikTok and digital first creators
- Experience working in tech or for a global company
- Fluency in French
- MA, JD/LL.B, or other graduate-level degree in a relevant field
