The Writers Guild of Canada, the association representing more than 2,500 professional screenwriters working in English language in Canada, is looking for an experienced Manager of Membership. This is a one-year maternity leave coverage position.

The Manager of Membership is responsible for overseeing membership programming and procedures, including online and in-person events, sponsorships and partnerships with other industry organizations, member invoicing, elections, and reports on member statistics. The Manager attends meetings with Council and National Forum, members, external stakeholders, internal and industry committees, and other duties as assigned by the Executive Director. This position is currently responsible for overseeing the Membership Administrator.
- Staff management: Managing and overseeing the work of the Membership Administrator and other staff as needed. Fills in on urgent matters when needed.
- Manages annual invoicing process, payment of annual dues, and updates to membership status.
- Enforces member-related policies and procedures, including the WGC Constitution and By-Laws; and recommends changes as required.
- Provides staff support to member committees and initiatives (eg. IDEA, Professional Development)
- IDEA: Works with the IDEA Committee to design and manage initiatives to advance inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility. Initiatives include: Script of the Month program, organizing pitch sessions, drafting accessibility guidelines for WGC events, managing members’ accommodation requests, and working with diverse industry organizations.
- Cultivate partnerships with industry stakeholders.
- Member services:
- Manages new member onboarding, troubleshoots members’ issues and answers inquiries.
- Liaises with AFBS on questions and complaints, data transfers, and updates
- Develops, manages and executes member programs, including the Writer-to-Writer program, and drafting funding applications and reports.
- Reviews and manages sponsorship and partnership requests under the supervision of the Executive Director or their designate.
- Provides support to the IDEA and Professional Development Committees.
- Provides membership statistics or reports as required.
- Develop, implement, and analyze member surveys.
- Elections, referendums, and ratifications:
- Works in conjunction with IT and under the supervision of the Executive Director or their designate.
- Manages Council and National Forum elections.
- Manages Referendum and Ratification processes.
- Oversees updates to members’ status as a result of elections, referendums, or ratifications.
