About the Role – How you will Contribute to the Service:
The Halton Regional Police is a forward-thinking service that is stepping forward as a leader in the field of crime analysis. We’re looking for a Full-Time Crime Analyst to join our team and help us tackle important challenges that will benefit both our police service and the community.
As a valued member of our team, your expertise in crime analysis will be instrumental. You’ll be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and disseminating crime data, which will be used by both internal and external parties. Your work will involve conducting complex and strategic analysis, applying systematic and analytical processes to support operational, investigative, and administrative personnel. Your efforts will help identify suspects and predict criminal activity, directly contributing to the safety and well-being of our community.

Here’s What you’ll get to do:
- Monitors criminal activity through the daily review of occurrence reports, contact cards and through communication with patrol, Criminal Investigative Bureau (CIB) and external agencies.
- Evaluates the reliability and relevance of acquired data. Extracts, sorts and analyzes pertinent and relevant information/intelligence. Ensures entry of data into the appropriate crime analysis systems.
- Applies complex statistical and spatial analytical methods to assist in identifying, current and future trends and possible causes, emerging and ongoing patterns of criminal behaviour, problem areas, persons of interest, crime/suspect and suspect/crime correlations.
- Responds to in-house and external requests for information/intelligence relating to crime and incident analysis.
- Prepares and distributes weekly information reports and in-house publications as directed. Prepares appropriate charts, maps and matrixes with respect to crime activity, patterns and trends.
- Prepares monthly and quarterly crime reports that contain geospatial, statistical and report summary information for the District Commanders.
- Develops, creates, and maintains a District Crime Analysis portal web page.
- Briefs District Commanders, patrol supervisors, investigators, uniform parades and others on the current condition of criminal activity within the district.
- Liaises with internal district staff, other district crime analysts, the intelligence analyst and other investigative functions to determine the extent of criminal activities that is similarly occurring between districts.
- Liaises with the other police services, relevant government agencies and all members of the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS).
- Attends and contribute to weekly Halton Region crime analysis meetings and quarterly Crime Analysis Network (OCAN) meetings.
- Maintains a productive network of both internal and external contacts.
- Other related duties as assigned.
What you’ll Bring to the Role:
Education, Certifications and Qualifications: Undergraduate University degree in a relevant field such as geography, statistics, mathematics or criminology etc. Certification as a Crime Analyst through IACA or IALEIA is an asset.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills: Minimum of 3 years of progressive related experience having developed a solid foundation in the tools, methods and techniques used in crime/statistical analysis work. Proven ability to conduct thorough research weaving together information from various sources into actionable intelligence. Applying appropriate statistical and analytical principles, methods and techniques. Knowledge of i2 Analysts Notebook software package is an asset.
Note: The successful applicant will need to pass a background check to the satisfaction of the Service which will include reference checks with previous employers, verification of educational achievements, and a criminal background screen.

This position is based out of our Milton facility which is located at Ontario St and Main St East. The position could at any point be re-located to our Oakville or Burlington facilities.
Core Working Hours: 35 hours per week: Monday - Friday
Salary Range: $85,629 to $94,098 per annum
