The MiWay Learning Centre is looking for two detail-oriented and process driven individuals to join our team.
Under the direction of the Manager of Training, the successful candidate will:
- Deliver all in-house training programs to new and existing Transit Operators that focuses on the development of transit skills and technical knowledge;
- Coach new and existing Transit Operators within a classroom environment, on-road evaluations and one-on-one performance feedback sessions;
- Ensure compliance with all Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Regulations and maintain the Signing Authority Standard required for all Training Officers;
- Ensure all documentation related to employee training and driving records is maintained and accessible, in accordance with the requirements of the MTO, City of Mississauga Corporate policies and MiWay's standard procedural rules and regulations;
- Conduct collision reviews as part of the Collision Review Committee to determine preventability of collisions and to recommend corrective actions and appropriate training;
- Act as a subject matter expert and trainer for all Transit employees with their questions, concerns and issues related to driving practices, driver performance / behaviour and legislative driving requirements;
- Investigate customer complaints regarding operator driving behaviour, and provide counsel and training as necessary;
- Represent the City in matters of public transit liability at claims hearings and other legal proceedings against the City, working closely with the internal Risk Management Section, external Legal Counsel, external Law Firms, Insurance companies and adjusters and other internal departments throughout the City;
- Assist with the development of required course curriculum and materials;
- Maintain a working knowledge of the MTO policies and processes, ATU Collective Agreement and MiWay operating polices, practices and procedures;
- Support MiWay in special events and ad hoc training projects as required;
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Valid Ontario Class C or B licence with Z endorsement for a minimum of 3 years;
- Clean driving record indicating safe and responsible vehicle operation over the past 3 years;
- Experience as a Peer Trainer is considered an asset;
- Post-Secondary Degree and/or Certification(s) in Adult Education, Training & Development is preferred;
- Solid working knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite software, along with all applicable City programs;
- Must have the ability to obtain Signing Authority status from the MTO;
- Understanding of transit operations, systems, and service delivery standards is an asset;
- Knowledge of relevant education programs, MTO and labour legislation (Ontario Highway Traffic Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.) is an asset;
- Proven presentation and facilitation skills, along with customer service skills to be able to create and maintain a learner-centered environment;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to transfer knowledge in formal and informal settings;
- Effective organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
- Consistently bases decisions on a systematic review of relevant facts and information, avoids making assumptions or rushing to judgement and provides clear rationale for decisions;
- Ability to build rapport with others within both a union and non-union environment.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 76,313.00 - $ 101,753.00
