AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Reporting to the Manager, Service Development, this position carries out comprehensive strategic and technical analysis to develop vehicle schedules, crew schedules and rosters, including planned new services and optimization of existing services, in support of cooperative business, market, service and long-range planning objectives. Provides direction to Scheduling team in the Transit Development section of Brampton Transit.
- Provide leadership, direction and support to the Scheduling team ensuring proper assignment of daily work duties, monitoring performance to meet business needs and emerging priorities, and providing performance feedback and support for skill development.
- Lead the Scheduling team to design and produce schedules aimed at maximizing customer benefit while minimizing operating expense and resource utilization. Ensure that schedules and operator work assignments adhere to the requirements set out in the Collective Agreement between the City and Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), thereby fostering compliance and operational efficiency.
- Lead the team to analyze transit performance data and prepare recommendations to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery.
- Collaborate in the dissemination of information regarding newly introduced services to both the public and transit staff, ensuring clear and effective communication channels are established and maintained. Develop communication strategies, creating informative materials, conduct training sessions for staff members, and address any queries or concerns that arise during the rollout of new services.
- Develop and administer policies and procedures aimed at optimizing transit service quality and efficiency. Conduct thorough assessments of existing protocols, identify areas for improvement, draft comprehensive policies and procedures, implement necessary changes, and ensure compliance among staff members. Oversee the ongoing monitoring and refinement of these policies and procedures to adapt to evolving transit service needs and industry standards.
- Provide support in conceptualizing, planning, and executing service changes within the transit system. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to assess the need for changes, conduct thorough analyses of proposed modifications, and provide insights to the design and implementation process. Assist in communicating these changes to both internal staff and the public to ensure a smooth transition and minimal disruption to service operations.
- Monitor and report on the performance of individual transit routes and the overall system, analyzing data to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to implement strategies aimed at enhancing route efficiency and overall system effectiveness.
- Conduct thorough investigations into public complaints and suggestions on behalf of the Service Development Manager, ensuring prompt and effective resolution. Gather relevant information, analyze root causes, and formulate appropriate responses or action plans. Liaise with stakeholders, including passengers and community members, to address concerns and foster positive relationships.
- Coordinate technical and professional responses to customer inquiries as required, ensuring prompt and accurate communication. Collaborate with stakeholders to address inquiries in a comprehensive manner.
- Champion excellence of customer service standards and delivery with key external partners and stakeholder groups.
- Represent Brampton Transit on internal and external committees, advocating for the organization’s interests and contributing expertise to decision-making processes.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
EDUCATION:
- College Diploma or University degree in related filed; An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- 5 years in similar position within the transit industry in addition to 2 years experience in a supervisory position, preferably in the transit industry.
OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:
- Highly developed computer skills; including MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and extensive experience with transit scheduling software (i.e. Hastus, Trapeeze).
- Proficiency in transit scheduling and planning techniques.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to ensure accuracy of work.
- Able to exercise creativity in utilizing abstract concepts.
