JUNIOR WEBSITE DEVELOPER
(Temporary, September – December, $20.43/hour)
This position supports the development, enhancement, and maintenance of the City’s website. The
Junior Website Developer will assist with ensuring that website content is accurate, timely, and
relevant. Additionally, they will help manage the image library for the website and the Office of
Sustainability, as well as collaborate with internal teams to address content updates, staff issues, and
website functionality improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in monitoring the functionality and usability of the City’s website, including the Content
Management System (CMS), and reporting issues to the website host or service providers as
needed.
- Support the regular review of website content to ensure information and graphics are accurate,
up-to-date, and aligned with the City’s Corporate Writing Guide.
- Work closely with content managers to update website content, create new pages, post updates
(e.g., news releases, notices), and ensure all changes meet accessibility standards.
- Assist in reviewing new content and edits provided by content managers before it is published on
the website.
- Provide basic training and support to internal staff on using the CMS and associated modules.
- Participate in meetings with content managers to discuss potential website improvements and
follow up on necessary actions.
- Ensure the website aligns with corporate vision, writing standards, and accessibility requirements
(WCAG 2.0 AA).
- Coordinate technical support needs within allocated budgets.
- Run basic website maintenance tools (e.g., link checkers, accessibility validation) to identify and
fix issues.
Successful applicants will possess the following:
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in computer science, web design, or a related
field. Certification in areas like web design or development is an asset but not required.
- Relevant coursework or project experience related to web development or management. No
formal work experience is required for the co-op role
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Basic understanding of HTML and website editing software. Willingness to learn.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently under minimal supervision.
- Attention to detail and interest in web technologies and trends.
